NSW Government backs new Murray tourism campaign

THE NSW Government has announced efforts to attract new visitors to the Murray region after a challenging summer affected by flood.

Tourism and major events agency Destination NSW is extending a targeted campaign delivered in partnership with Murray Regional Tourism to boost visitor numbers.

Minister for Tourism Ben Franklin said government support for the campaign now totalled more than $700,000 and was an example of industry and government working hand-in-hand to support regional communities.

“The NSW Government knows how tough our regions have had it in recent years, and the flooding and flood risk over summer had a significant impact on visitor numbers to the Murray during the usual peak season,” Mr Franklin said.

“This support will ensure businesses involved in the visitor economy in this area rebound and thrive, maintaining the diversity of experiences that NSW has to offer.

“Destination NSW will continue to work closely with Murray Regional Tourism to extend existing and undertake new promotional activities to attract new visitors to the region during the shoulder season at Easter and beyond.”

Younger travellers will be targeted from Melbourne, regional Victoria, the ACT and southern NSW.

The campaign, developed under Destination NSW’s Feel New brand, will feature a range of experiences and tourism operators that appeal to a younger demographic through lifestyle media website content, YouTube, Out of Home billboards, Spotify, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.

Murray Regional Tourism chair Wendy Greiner thanked the NSW Government for its ongoing support at this critical time.

“The good news is the Murray region is open for business and we can’t wait to welcome growing numbers of visitors to the region to enjoy the freedom, adventure and new experiences we have to offer,” Ms Greiner said.

“We are proud to work with Destination NSW to promote our beloved home to as many prospective visitors as possible, and we know our operators are ready to show them our world-class hospitality.”
