NSW sides locked in for grand final

GOL Gol and Coomealla Wentworth are locked in for next week’s Sunraysia Cricket Association Twenty20 grand final.

Wins for the NSW sides over Mildura Settlers and Merbein respectively secured their place in Thursday’s play-off at Alcheringa Oval.

Gol Gol finished undefeated with a solid 10-wicket victory over Setts on their home deck.

A quality four overs from Stewart Hallam yielded 4/15 as Setts were knocked over for 83, with a solid 20 off 21 balls from Cooper Aldridge the highest score.

It took Wade Hancock (42 off 32) and Shac Thomas (40 off 30) just 10.2 overs to chase down the total and secure victory.

At Chaffey Park, Coomealla Wentworth chased Merbein’s target of 86 with six wickets and nine deliveries in hand.

The in-form Mark East top scored with 29 from 31 in the Magpies’ 8/85, with Justin Freeman (2/8) and Jarrod Brander (2/15) impressing with the ball for the Blues.

An unbeaten 33-run stand between Matt Job (24 off 35) and Freeman (15 off 24) saw Coomie home, Mitch Kemp also adding a quick fore 18 from 14 deliveries.

Elsewhere, Mildura East’s Muki Sharma had a night out against Irymple, taking 6/27 to secure his side a 16-run victory.

Sharma’s haul, the best individual bowling performance of the series, held Irymple to 8/107 as they chased 124 for victory.

It already backed up an impressive earlier batting performance as he scored 27 from 18 deliveries, co-top scoring with Tom Vadlja (27 not out from 17) during East’s 5/123.

Jed Connelly impressed for the Swallows with 43 from 44 deliveries during the unsuccessful run chase.

Young guns Nick Blacker and Lewis Dichiera helped Nichols Point finish their T20 campaign on a high with a nine-wicket win over Mildura West, albeit passing the target in the final over.

Blacker (48 off 51) and Dichiera (47 off 38) combined for an unbeaten 75-run second wicket partnership to finish at 1/135, casing down the 5/131 scored by West.

Earlier, Tom Holmes continued his strong form for West with 49 from 40, while 14-year-old Josh Driscoll impressed with an unbeaten 26 off 28.
