Rams and Rangers feature in finals preview

A POSSIBLE A Grade grand final preview is on the cards for Red Cliffs Cricket Association this week as Ouyen host Robinvale Euston.

The Rams and Rangers have been far and away the best teams in the competition for the season and with two rounds remaining after this week, home finals are assured.

Robinvale Euston, however, would love to get one up on the reigning premiers at Blackburn Park who are yet to be defeated in the 2022/23 campaign.

Ouyen come into the contest following a 58-run win over Fire Brigade, while the Rangers had a tight finish against Tempy, prevailing by 11 runs.

Rams opener Conor Schultz continued his impressive run, scoring 68, his third consecutive half-century, before Travis Parsons and Sam Mead followed up with three wickets each to help dismiss Fire Brigade for 108.

Rangers bowler Dilan Kottahachige has continued his meteoric rise in his first season of competitive cricket, leading the A Grade competition for wickets taken with 24 ahead of teammate Travis Shawcross and Fire Brigade’s Lachy Rohde on 19.

Shawcross was also in good form with the bat last week, making 64 from just 43 deliveries, with Tom Lister also making an impressive 61 up the order.

Tempy, meanwhile, will hope to secure a place in the finals with a win over Cardross on their home deck.

The Tigers were close to an upset win over Robinvale Euston last week as Joel Grace led the way with a late order 30 and 3/42, while Nic Monaghan’s 34 also kept them in the game.

An impressive win for Cardross against Millewa last week has drawn them level on points and they will look to push off the bottom of the table.

Jeremy Aworth was the star of the show with 79 before taking 4/26 to secure the 29-run win.

Millewa will look to recover against Fire Brigade at Quandong Park.

The Bullants can take solace from a strong performance by Liam Smith, whose 5/30 was his first five-wicket haul for the club, while Scottie Clark led the batting with 41.

Jason Beard continued his impressive season for Fire Brigade last week, scoring 48 and taking 3/16.
