Bullants fight to make finals

MILLEWA must do what no other team has done this season and defeat Ouyen to make the Red Cliffs Cricket Association A Grade finals.

It’s a tough task set for the Bullants, because the reigning premiers have swept all before them this season.

Millewa, currently in fifth and a win outside the top four, are also reliant on fourth-placed Fire Brigade being defeated by third-placed Tempy. A win for the Brigadiers would secure a semi-final berth.

Robinvale Euston, currently in second, meanwhile travel to face Cardross in preparation for a home-semi final against Tempy.

The Bullants came unstuck against Tempy last week as an unbeaten 103 from Tigers opener Jace Monaghan and 83 not out from skipper Ben Mole led them to a 76-run victory.

The Tigers finished at 2/223 from their 40 overs and despite a season-high 70 from Jimmy Walker and 28 from James Wilson, Millewa were held to 9/147 in their allotted overs.

Blake Smith led the Tigers bowling with an economic 4/16, with Tate Hulland and Harry Harcourt each taking two scalps.

Fire Brigade could have cemented a finals berth last week, however fell to the hands of Robinvale Euston by 61 runs.

The Rangers finished 40 overs at 9/175, Daniel Curran scoring an important 43 at number eight, with Aaron Zappia (27) and skipper Jesse McGinty (25) also scoring important runs.

Dylan Roberts’ 3/21, including three maidens in eight overs, were his best bowling figures of the season.

The Brigadiers were all out for 114 after 37 overs, with Daniel Leersen (33) and Jason Beard (26) top scoring.

Zack Walsh’s 3/18 led the way for the Rangers while Travis Shawcross, James Zappia and Michael Simpson each finished with two wickets.

Cardross, meanwhile, were all out for 77 in an eight-wicket loss to Ouyen Rams.

Jeremy Aworth and Peter Jory each scored 24 for the Lions, while Daniel Kay 3/9, while Daniel Pryse and Ben Nihill each took two.

Pryse scored an unbeaten 39 and Conor Schultz 32 as the Rams passed the total in the 19th over.
