Showcase of our elite netball talent

THERE will be three blockbuster netball matches at next month’s Dreamtime at The P.

A stellar line-up of local netball talent will hit the court on April 15 when Sunraysia’s under 17s representative team take on the Under 17s Mallee Tigers, Senior Millewa representatives take on the Senior Mallee Tigers and two teams filled with Sunraysia’s best go head-to-head.

SFNL board member and netballer Yelena Richardson said there had been a fantastic response from all the leagues towards the event, with many players putting their hands up to get involved.

“We’re excited to bring everyone together for the event and showcase the talent across the Sunraysia region,” she said.

“This is something different to anything that has been showcased in Sunraysia previously and it’s a great opportunity to bring together all three local leagues in both netball and football.”

The main event for the netball is Sunraysia’s Allstar vs Dreamteam match, which will include a range of A Grade players from local clubs.

The teams will be coached by Amanda Edwards from Wentworth and Breigh Hammet from Merbein.

“We’re fortunate to have 2022 Grand Finalists Amanda Edwards, Nat Vercher and Christie Becker in the Sunraysia all-star line-up, as well as many more talented SFNL players,” Richardson said.

“Courtney Wakefield will be making a comeback after her successful 2022 AFLW season with Richmond and South Mildura player Morna Nuquto returns from her tryouts with the Fiji Pearls Netball squad.

“The Senior game will bring together the best players of the league and is expected to be a must-watch game of the day.”

The games, which will be played indoors after the success of the 2022 grand final, will see Sunraysia’s teams in new uniforms, designed for the event.

Sunraysia’s Under 17s coach Sally Moore said it was exciting to bring the region’s strong calibre of netballers together.

She said it was also warming to see younger players putting their hands up and inspiring others to get involved in future events.

“What I am really happy about is that the people who have said they want to play, they have put their hand up and put themselves out there to have a go,” she said.

“They are the future of it and I hope they inspire others.”

Full team lists will be published at a later date.
