THE Wentworth golf course could be open in the next three months, as it recovers rapidly from summer flooding.
The course was left inundated when a levee burst in late November and there were fears the course could take over a year to recover.
But club president Glen Walker said that he was happy with the help it had received in fast-tracking the recovery.
“We have had some volunteers and club members helping us out a lot,” he said.
“We also got a grant from the NSW Government so that has helped to employ some people with the clean-up.
“About three weeks ago the council went down and dug a big trench which drained the bulk of the water into the creek next door.”
While the course has made progress Walker admitted that some areas were affected worse than others.
“The sixth, 13th and 14th fairways were under water the longest so they were hit the hardest,” he said.
Ultimately this has led to the club to taking a cautious approach to opening up again.
“A few guys have been keen to have a hit, but we want to make sure that it’s safe first,” Walker said.
“We’re getting sand spread out this week.”
The Wentworth Golf Club was one of many sporting groups affected by the floods, with some expected to be closed for years.
Walker was aware that the situation could always be worse and was grateful for the help received.
“Everything is ticking along, it’s just a matter of time,” he said.
