Court up in the hype

THE elite netballers of Sunraysia are back on court and promising another entertaining campaign.

A Grade competition in the Sunraysia Football and Netball League was at a premium in 2022, but the burning question ahead of the 2023 is who can stop Wentworth?

The reigning premiers have won their past 28 consecutive contests, including a last-gasp victory over Ouyen United in last year’s decider.

The epic encounter inside the Mildura Sporting Precinct has gone down as one of the greatest A Grade netball contests in recent years, and hopefully, it’s just a snippet of the new season ahead.

Following COVID interruptions, you need to rewind to the 2019 grand final for the Roos’s previous defeat, coming against Kangas.

However, when one side is so good, they automatically become the target for every other side and Wentworth will need to be wary of the eight clubs gunning for them.

The depth of talented younger players making their name at A Grade level is outstanding, with coaches trusting in their stars of the future to also make an impact now.

That is evidenced by the number of netballers 21 and under who have earned an SFNL representative berth for the Dreamtime at the P contest.

From the opposite end of the spectrum to Wentworth, Red Cliffs broke a 2891-day winless run, making it a historic campaign.

Under returning coach Chantal Allford with new recruits in yellow and black, could it be another year of ladder climbing for the Tigers?

There are so many questions waiting to be answered for every side and with the season just a week away, they’re busy preparing their answers.

Be sure to get courtside in 2023 because you won’t want to miss a second of the action.
