Nangi powers on in Millewa netball

NANGILOC’S A Grade netballers have taken home their third-straight win in a convincing defeat of Gol Gol on Friday night.

Both teams hit the court strong in the round 2 game, but Nangiloc found themselves an early lead thanks to their accurate shooting and full-court defence.

Finishing the first quarter ahead by 10 goals, Nangiloc continued to increase their margin with each quarter.

Nangiloc captain Tess Thompson said it was a competitive game all the way through, despite the end score of 44-20.

“(Gol Gol) were a good team and their shooters were actually really good but our defenders were just so good as well,” she said.

“It was a good competition even when the score blew out a little bit.”

This round was the first time Nangiloc had their full team on the court this season and Thompson said the girls had “flowed really well together”.

She named defenders Gabby Gardner and Ginine Sluiter as the team’s best.

The pair had performed well for the team, working hard to apply pressure to Gol Gol’s shooters.

Gol Gol coach Sarah Allan said it was a tough game against the Demons, but the girls would use it as an opportunity to learn.

“Credit to (Nangiloc) for their exceptional shooting they didn’t miss much at all and had great defensive pressure all the way down the court so it was a tough game for us,” she said.

“We are taking away some stuff and obviously we will work on that at training during the week and hopefully next time we meet them on the court we will be a little more better prepared.”

Allan said defenders Amy Hunt and Brooke Oosting were “exceptional” for the team.

“They had their hands on everything,” she said.

“They were stand outs.”

Gol Gol now have a win, draw and loss behind them as they head into round 4 against experienced Werrimull.

“One of the things we were pretty keen to see going into this season was how we would measure up against the teams and I am pretty happy with the drawn and the win,” she said.

“(Friday) was a little harder to digest, but we are pretty happy with where things are going as a team.”
