Versatile Spratt shines in Swallows’ win

AT only 17, Indi Spratt has not only speed on the netball court, but the confidence and versatility that comes from years of dedication.

Also a talented young basketballer, Spratt shone during Irymple’s A Grade netball win against Red Cliffs on Saturday.

After dominating in wing attack, where she created with ball in hand and also pulled off a number of intercepts, Spratt switched to goal attack in the last quarter to re-energise the Swallows’ offence.

Spratt made eight of the 14 goals scored by Irymple during the quarter, helping their score blow out to a 40-25 win.

Spratt was named as one of the team’s best, alongside centre player Shakara Delcastegne, and has been named this week’s Netballer of the Round.

“I think we started (the game) well,” she said.

“They had really good defensive pressure, so being able to convert off that was really good and putting other people in different positions.”

Spratt said it was good to bury some crucial late goals to build confidence when switched into the GA role.

“I usually most of the time just pass it off if I’m playing goal attack,” she said.

“Usually I am not that accurate, so it was good to be able to help out by doing that.”

Spratt has shown her flexibility in both positions this season, representing SFNL in the Dreamtime game earlier this year, playing GA with Wentworth’s GS Amanda Edwards.

Originally a part of South Mildura before moving to Irymple in 2021, Spratt played in both the senior and junior sides for many years.

But now solely an A Grade player, she said she was happy with how the young team had come together.

“We have all played together before so it is really good to bond,” she said.

“Everyone is really versatile … and we are really honest with each other, if something isn’t working we will say.”

Spratt said communication and positivity were important on the court.

“I really think voice and encouraging, as well as being really positive is a good thing,” she said.

“Even if we are down, trying to still be positive about it.”
