Doherty, Chandler shine in Tri-State Masters

COOMEALLA young gun Ben Doherty won the three-round A Grade men’s golf event at the 30th annual Shane Doherty Tri-State Masters on Friday.

The 19-year-old recorded a seven-shot victory at Mildura Golf Resort, where he began the day with a four-shot lead following strong rounds earlier this week at Red Cliffs and Robinvale.

Doherty’s victory comes in a tournament named in honour of his grandfather.

Shane won the event in 2005 and Garth won the event in 2002 and 2014.

In the women’s A Grade event, Jenny Chandler made it back-to-back wins.
