VETERANS

MONDAY was the Best Price golf single Stableford event held at Red Cliffs which had 53 players in the field. The day was a typical winters day. It started with an overcast sky that developed into dizzle and finished with pouring rain. The wet competitors were glad to be back in the clubhouse enjoying a warm lunch. We had five visitors join us and we welcomed two new members in Adel Dal Corobbo and John Tate.

The A Grade winners was Gary Sharman on 38 points with a countback needed to give David Lloyd second place from Jill Gleeson, who both scored 37 points.

It was another close call in B Grade where Peter Sinnott’s 39 points won from Jeff Riordan and George Mason both with 37 points.

The ball winners were Brian Young, Laurie Riordan, Ray Lyons, Glenn Butterworth, Keith Willis, Keith Williams, Boof Ferguson, Dennis Griggs, Ken Upton, Mick Nunns, Cath Remmer, Geoff Southwell, Bruce Mathieson and Ray Pain.

The NTP winners were Ray Lyons on the 3rd, Ned Klemm on the 8th, Glenn Butterworth on the 12th, David Lloyd on the 15th and Mark Woodhouse on the 17th.

The badge winner was Alison Black.

Our thanks to the cooks and bar staff at the golf club for their support in making the day such as success.

Our next event will be the championship round to be held on Monday, July 3 at the Mildura Golf Club.

A reminder that in two weeks time Ouyen Golf Club will be hosting a vets day on Monday, June 19.

RED CLIFFS

LAST Wednesday a Stableford event was played with Peter Knight winning the men’s competition with 39 points from Darren Murnane runner-up on a countback with 37 points. NTPs: 8th – M. Collett; 15th – J. Filippi; 17th N. Walker.

In the women’s competition Jill Gleeson won A Grade on a countback from Adel Dal Corobbo with 36 points and in B Grade, Julie Warne had 38 points to win on a countback from Karen Bulman. NTPs: 3rd – J. Gleeson; 8th – J. Lloyd; 12th – J. Gleeson; 17th – Lee Bottomley.

On Saturday the men played the annual Beef and Burgundy. Daryl Morgan, Rex Morgan, Troy Germane and Murray Nulty were the winners with 54¾, with Luke Perry, Cam Howard, Deon Webber and Corey Weber runners-up with 56½. NTPs: 3rd – T. Plumridge; 8th – O. Mannix; 15th – T. Germane; 17th – L. Perry.

On Sunday Sally Jones had 36 points to win from runner-up Daryl Morgan with 35 points.

MILDURA

WINNER of the Vererans competiton on Monday, May 29 was Mark Woodhouse (4) with 38 points from runner-up Jeff Giddings (9) with 35 points and third place went to Ray Lyons (10) with 34 points.

12th Zilzie Wines – Alan Steedman 725cm.

The ladies played a nine hole and an 18 hole American foursome’s competition on Tuesday, May 30.

The nine hole winners were Fran Thornton and Janice Japp with 42.12 net from runners-up Jean Moore and Isobel Westhead with 42.75 net.

The 18 hole winners were Ruth Rodi and Sandra Hutchinson with 71.12 net from runners-up Sue Burgess and Glenda Hiskins 75.62 net.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Susan Mills 278cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Sue Burgess 1100cm.

Last Wednesday 113 players competed in a novelty day with all competitors hitting off the red tees, with handicaps adjusted, to play a single Stableford.

A Grade winner captain Gary Fumberger (7) with 37 points from runner-up Jeff Giddings (5) on 36 points on a countback with third placed Trevor (Capper) Spanos (4) also with 36 points.

B Grade winner was Keith Williams (9) with 40 points from runner-up Nigel Ingram (11) on 38 points on a countback with third placed Terry Duck (10) also on 38 points.

C Grade winner was Dennis McLaughlin (19) with the best score of the day with 42 points from runner-up Bruce McEwan (17) on 38 points on a countback from third placed Steve Peters (20) also on 38 points.

There were 28 balls in the ball comp and 34 points on a countback or better collected.

There were two eagles on the day with James Handcock on the 13th hole and Greg Rhodes on the 18th hole– thanks to TWW for the sponsorship.

On Friday the ladies played an 18 hole Stableford event and the winner was Helen Treacy (24) with 38 points from runner-up Tracy Katis (37) with 36 points.

There were two balls in the ball comp and 36 points on a countback or better collected.

NTP: 12th Zilzie Wines – Ann Bowen 825cm.

The June monthly medal was played on Saturday with a great field of 136 players heading out on the course.

A Grade winner was George Poriazis (11) with 68 net from runner-up Joseph Rocca (4) with 72 on a countback from third placed Greg Rhodes (0) also on 72 net.

B Grade winner was Robert Briggs (14) with 70 net on a countback from runner-up Frank Crouch (15) and third placed Jeff Chalmers (15) both with 70 net.

C Grade winner was Josh Evans (28) with 65 net and best score of the day. Runner-up went to Frank Morello on 67 net and third place went to Gavin Harrington (19) with 72 net.

There were 33 balls in the ball comp and 75 net on a countback or better collected.

There was an eagle two on the 7th hole for Phil Green for the TWW eagles nest of two balls.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure wine – Maurice Warn 328cm; 2nd Trentham Estate/PIG – Paul Leonard 34cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Cameron Stewart 245cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Cameron Stewart 97cm.

Sunday’s medley Stableford was won by Michael Smallwood with 40 points.

The 40 Winks 4BBB knockout results from the quarter finals were: Gavin Harrington and Terry O’Brien beat Steve Fumberger and George Szentpaly 3/2; Andy Stanbrook and Brant Reid won a close match on the 18th hole over Paul Treacy and Chris Bush; Greg Toma and Henry Hartmann advanced to the next round over Aaron Robson and Ross Williams 2/1. The last quarter final match will be played today.

We welcomed a new greens staff member last week in Geoff Tandy, whose vast knowledge of turf management, professional tournament experience and love of golf will be greatly appreciated and an asset to the club. If you see Geoff around the club, please give him a warm welcome.

RIVERSIDE

WITH everyone now back into the swing of things on Riverside’s fairways and the weather still bringing us some pretty comfortable temperatures, the scores have once again been impressive.

Monday’s Veteran and Friends Stableford was a pleasing round for winner John Wass, after he put together a great 41 points. It took a countback to determine the runner-up, with another John, in Denman, collecting in front of Keith Willis both on 36 points. Balls went to 33 points.

NTPs: 7th – Lorraine Palmer 1000cm; 18th – Gary Sharman 135cm.

The ladies played a nine hole event on Tuesday and Adel Dal Corobbo saluted with 17 points to grab a win.

Wednesday’s event for the men was played in two grades with an excellent 40 points coming from Seb Raiti to take A Grade buy one point over runner-up Roland Tankard on 39 points.

Ken Hornsby had a ine score of 37 points to be B Grade winner from Ron Hall on 36 points.

Balls: 35 points on a countback.

Greg King finished with an eagle on the Par 5 2nd hole.

NTPs: Zilzie wines 4th – John Denman 172cm; 7th – Wayne Innes 556cm; Good Deal Tyres 18th – Grant Giddings 390cm.

Janet Luke produced a mighty round on Thursday in the ladies Stableford of +5 to snatch the win from Adele Dal Corobbo with +4. Balls: Square on a countback.

NTPs: 4th – Janet Luke 525cm; 7th – Selma Mayne 650cm; 12th – Chitra Rankin 13cm; 18th – Chitra Rankin, birdie.

The nine hole medley Stableford went to Glen Walker on 19 points in front of three players on 18 points. Don Male picked up second place, followed by Angelo DÁmico and Brad Winslow. Balls: 16 points.

Tracey Bryan is on a roll at the moment, pumping out another super score of 41 points and notching up another win. The ever consistent, Chitra Rankin placed second, but had 38 points in doing so. Balls: 35 points.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Pat Riordan 232cm; Red Rooster 12th – Chitra Rankin 54cm; 18th – Tracey Bryan 57cm.

There was a big field for the men’s Saturday Stableford which meant three grades for the day.

Josh Fleming collected A Grade with a great 39 points while Chris O’Brien took the honours for runner-up after a countback with Michael Holcroft, both on 37 points.

Paul Reed finished his round with a winning score of 41 points to win B Grade from Jerry Stephens, just one point behind on 39 points.

The C Grade placings were a duplicate of A Grade, with Les Ball winning on 39 points, Don Male grabbing second place on 37 points after a countback with Phillip Hammat and Ken Hornsby. Balls: 33 points on a countback.

The par four 13th hole was a pleasing one for Rob Garioch who scored an eagle.

Sunday’s medley Stableford saw Jake Kiel walking away with the win with his 39 points from Andrew Thomas on 38 points. Balls: 35 points on a countback.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Matt Anderson 95cm; 7th – Bruce Liddell 720cm; 18th – Clint Babler 185cm.

MERBEIN

LAST Wednesday was our midweek Stableford competition with Ryan Teasdale on 36 points taking the win from Robert Redman with 34 points.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage Merbein – Ryan Teasdale 418cm; 12th Club Voucher – Terry Fitzpatrick 160cm; 16th Merbein Lions Club – Ryan Teasdale 505cm.

Our monthly medal was up for grabs on Saturday with a good field competing and some very good scores were posted.

After many attempts Peter McGaffin finally got the win with a very good 79/70 but was pushed all the way by runner-up Alan Gourlay with 79/71.

Ball winners were Claude Dawson 83/71, Robert Redman 90/71, and Steve Farley 78/72.

NTPs: 3rd – Australian Vintage Merbein – Claude Dawson 400cm; 3rd Pigeon Dollars – Claude Dawson 400cm; 12th Club Voucher – Alan Gourlay 461cm; 16th Merbein Lions Club “Weekly” – Ryan Teasdale 505cm.

Entries are being taken for the King’s Birthday Ambrose in fours with a $25 per person entry fee with a 12.30pm shotgun start. There will be a barbecue on the day.

ROBINVALE

LAST Wednesday’s Stableford event was won by D. Penionga with 39 points from runner-up J. Zappia on a countback from T. Zappia, both with 35 points.

There was no NTP, so today that will jackpot for the second week in a row.

Saturday was the Monthly Medal sponsored by Hondo & Rids, played in amazing conditions. J. Carruthers won the event with 67 net from runner-up A. Zara on 68 and third was S. Clarke with 69 nett from fourth placed D. Leslie on a countback with 71 net.

NTPs: 9th – J. Leslie; 14th – M. Smith.
