Kangaroos hang on with close win

MERINGUR A Grade netball coach Maddy McPhee said Saturday’s epic win over Cardross was her side’s most complete performance this season.

The Kangas held on for their second victory of the year against Cardross, winning 49-48 and remaining just two points adrift of the Millewa Netball Association top four.

McPhee admitted the result was too close for comfort, but one they will savour.

“We definitely have to give credit to the Cardy girls as it was a really tough contest, but it was probably our most complete performance of the year,” she said. “In attack we had to move the ball around and open up greater opportunities, which is something we worked on during the break as well just building confidence in our own game.

“It’s such an even competition with all of the teams this year and I feel like anyone can win on the day.

“Hopefully this can lead to a few more wins and push us past Gol Gol into the top four.”

Megan McGlashan, Jordan Kerr and Susie Wilson all performed well for the girls in blue and white to keep their finals ambitions alive in the back half of the campaign.

Despite claiming just one win for the season, Cardross have been desperately unlucky with four of their seven losses being by three goals or less.

Montanna Ezzey, Emily Gleeson and Chloe Brabender were all named in the better performers.

McPhee said Meringur have a great chance to test themselves against ladder leaders Nangiloc at Lake Cullulleraine this week.

The Demons grabbed their seventh win of the campaign against Gol Gol on Saturday, securing a 57-34 victory.

Tess Thompson, Tamara Loveridge and Kristy Middleton all performed well for the victors, with the Hawks led by Abbey Curran, Jessemy Thornton and Amy Hunt.

Bambill remains two points behind Nangiloc following a 58-33 win over Werrimull.

Maddy Tormey, Samantha Garraway and Kaylie Monaghan were star performers for the Saints, while Tara Martin, Olivia Putland, Maddison Maher were the Magpies’ best players.
