City, Knights clash in match of the round

FOOTBALL fans will be in for a treat on Sunday, when Mildura City and Irymple Knights meet in a top-of-the-table clash in round eight of the S-League at the Aero Ovals.

It promises to be an exciting battle between two formidable teams who have a long-standing rivalry and a healthy mutual respect.

In their previous encounter, Mildura City emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over the Knights.

However, since that loss, the Knights have been in strong form.

City, who have an imposing 24-1 for-and-against record, are unbeaten this season, while the Knights have just dropped the one game.

One player to watch in this match is City’s Lukas Pedder.

With Justin Lamattina out injured, Pedder has taken on defensive duties and has been exceptional throughout the season.

His defensive prowess and ability to make crucial interceptions will play a vital role in thwarting the Knights’ attacking threats.

On the Knights’ side, their defensive duo of veteran Luke Pain and youngster Nathan Monteleone will face a difficult task in containing City’s formidable attack.

Pain and Monteleone will need to be at their best to keep the City’s attack at bay and ensure their team remains solid defensively.

The midfield battle will also be a crucial aspect of the game, with Tyler Rayson (City) and Donald (Knights) sure to play key roles.

Both players possess the ability to dictate the pace of the game and provide the creative spark for their teams.

When it comes to goal-scoring prowess, both sides have a wealth of attacking options.

With goal-scoring stalwarts Nicolas Woods (City) and Chris Romeo (Knights) at opposite ends, it is likely that goals will be scored in this match.

Both teams possess a fantastic balance of youth players who have emerged from their respective systems and experienced campaigners.

This is not only the match of the round but quite possibly the clash of the season.

In the other game, Three Colours meet Mildura United.

Kick-off in both games is at 3.10pm.
