Gol Gol coach upbeat ahead of Magpies clash

GOL Gol’s A Grade side is confident they have what it takes to match third-placed Werrimull this weekend.

The Hawks, who are fourth on the ladder, are heading into their round 9 home game “fit and ready”, according to coach Sarah Allen.

Last time the two teams met, Werrimull defeated Gol Gol 44-32.

Allen said the Pies would be “tough competitors” again this week, but said she had confidence in her team.

“We were able to match them for three or four quarters when we last played,” she said.

“I’m confident that we will improve on that this week.”

The Hawks met top team Nangiloc last week and lost by 23 goals.

“Both our goal end and defensive end were missing key players last week against Nangiloc which definitely had an impact on the final score,” Allen said.

“We are thankful to have depth in our playing group this year and appreciate the support from the players that stepped up.

“Watching our centre court apply intense pressure all the way down the court was a highlight of the game and resulted in a number of turnovers.”

In Saturday’s other games, Nangiloc will face Meringur at Lake Cullulleraine.

Nangiloc have only been defeated by Werrimull this season, making it a challenge for the fifth-placed Kangaroos.

At Mildura Senior College second-placed Bambill will face bottom-of-the-ladder Cardross.

The Saints have only lost one game this year, but drew with Gol Gol in round 1.

Cardross have one win up their sleeve and will be hopeful of making it two.

All games begin at noon.
