McNamara’s shooting nets weekly title

MILDURA Demons player-coach Jess McNamara has been named the Mildura Golf Resort SFNL Netballer of the Week after an unstoppable display in her team’s 63-35 dispatching of Merbein Magpies.

McNamara led her side from the front scoring 42 goals, raising her season’s tally to 179 goals and is currently fourth in the whole competition for shooting.

“I thought I was pretty happy with my performance, but I actually had no idea I’d shot 42 goals until I think one of you guys had posted it on Sunraysia Daily, so it was a shock for myself really,” she said.

McNamara said the collective strength of her Mildura group is resounding.

“It’s not just a one person effort that’s for sure.”

“Without having the team like my team and obviously their skills, talent, ability to feed the ball into myself or whoever else is in the goal circle is such a key component to it all.

“I think each one of them are growing throughout the season.”

McNamara also credited the even spread of contribution present for the Demons which has been vital as they are perched second on the SFNL ladder.

“I definitely cannot pick out one person because every single one of them are outstanding,” she said.

Despite her team’s championship charge, balancing coaching duties with leading on the court has been far from a simple task for McNamara to juggle.

“Being player-coach definitely has its challenges, but we just sort of adapt to each other and when it comes to playing, we all know what we’re doing,” she said.

“The expectations are just making sure that we still have that positive vibe throughout the team.”

As the Mildura Golf Resort SFNL Netballer of the Week for round seven McNamara receives a $150 voucher for the Mildura Golf Resort.
