NEW Sunraysia tennis champions have been crowned following senior and junior Sunraysia District Tennis Association Doubles Championships last weekend.
Cambell McKenzie and Nathan Swaeney, and Leanne Jordan and Kerrie Lynch, took out the respective men’s and women’s Division 1 titles to claim overall honours.
McKenzie and Swaeney were victorious over Reg Arney and Raki Woetai, while in the men’s Division 2 Matt Mandica and Tague Morris took a win for youth over the experienced Brian Vorwerk and Len Poole.
Jordan and Lynch defeated Lisa Hill and Breanna Smith, Sue Hardie and Tash Pedler took out the women’s Division 2 from Teoi and Tania Kirirua-Gill, and Jenny Green and Wendy Dickie were the winning team in Division 3 over Rata Opo and Angela Tiere.
In juniors, A Grade singles winner Derek Bagacay teamed up with Samar Warring to win their card over Caylen Fell and Nate Hogarth. On the other card Mason Pinnington and Avaneeth Jeyakantham just edged out Aveena Jeyakantham and Sega Williams.
The A Grade final saw Bagacay and Warring with a comprehensive victory over Pinnington and Jeyakantham, 6-2.
B1 Grade was taken out by Fell and Hogarth, beating Williams and Jeyakantham, 6-3.
Nate Lawn and Tomi Fanoiki, winner and runner-up in the singles, proved an unstoppable pairing with an impressive 24/3 giving them the B2 title. Runners-up Patrick Edwards and Derek Gardiner had a big morning of tennis, finishing with 18/22.
C Grade was hotly contested with only one game separating the first three pairings. Eventual winners were Adele Cameron and Charlotte Hardy, 15/19, from Holly Batchelor and Kaitlyn Bennett, 14/20, who just edged out Ethan Davis and Charlotte Davis, 14/22.
Home-and-away matches recommence this Saturday for both seniors and juniors as the competition heads to the business end of the season.
