Noah to play in US tournament

AFTER impressing at a large national event, young baseballer Noah Nichols will now travel halfway across the world to represent the Aussie Drop Bears.

The Babe Ruth World Series is a US event held in Missouri that will give participants the opportunity to compete against the best baseballers around the world.

The last time Nichols, 18, spoke to the Sunraysia Daily, it was clear that he had high aspirations and now, less than a month later, part of that goal has come to fruition.

“It’s gonna be a whole different experience,” he said.

“We will get to play against teams such as Canada, Mexico and Japan, big names like that.

“I’ve heard that the Mexican team tend to throw at about 95 miles per hour, which is around 150 kilometres an hour.”

Nichols reflected on the selection process in the six-team Down Under Winter Classic where his team, the T-Bones finished last.

“We only won two games, before the tournament begun we had already had two players drop out, so we didn’t have many pitchers which made us struggle a little bit,” he said.

“At the end of every game, the coach of your team wrote down the top six players from each game.

“It was actually a really good tournament, I managed to play really well.”

Richard Law, the president of the Eagles Baseball Club who Nichols grew up playing, said that it was a well deserved selection.

“It wasn’t surprising given Noah’s commitment to the sport locally and his determination,” he said.

“His selection highlights the talent that comes out of Sunraysia especially in a lesser known sport like baseball.”

Nichols said that the schedule was yet to be figured out but he would depart Mildura on August 9.

The Babe Ruth series is set to take place at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, between August 11 and August 21.

This just needs to be added to the bottom of the online baseball story about Noah Nichols.

Cold Rock Mildura is supporting the youngster, with all cash tub sales going towards the expensive trip.

If you would like to donate, tubs are also in store.
