MILDURA’S momentum refuses to slow as they eye off an epic rematch with the undefeated Wentworth in round 18.
The Demons machine was in top condition after they flexed their muscles over Robinvale Euston, winning 81-37 at John James Oval and securing the double chance in the process.
Mildura’s only blemish this season has been against the unassailable Roos back in round 9, and they will collide again in the final home and away contest before a qualifying final match-up again the following week.
Demons coach Sharon Watson said her side still needs to respect Red Cliffs and Imperials over the next two weeks.
“Against Red Cliffs last time, we faded very badly in the second half, so we know we can’t relax against anyone because they want to make things hard for us and pushing themselves for the upcoming seasons,” she said.
“This is when we definitely need to step it up. Today had been like finals weather as well so that was another thing that we pointed out during the game.
“Robinvale put up a good fight today but we had targets we had set for ourselves and we needed to reach today and we did that.”
Assistant coach Jess McNamara was on song, scoring 30 goals in the first half, even impressing at goalkeeper in the third term when she switched back to give Zara Copley an opportunity under the ring and score 28 second-half goals.
The skipper finished with 42 goals after playing in goal attack for the final term.
The aforementioned duo, Ellie Vincent and Maddie Alvino were all on the same page for the day as their passing was immaculate.
Defensive trio Ava Zadow, Milli Seward and Katelyn Challis were at their intercepting best and Ally Leng pulled the strings in centre court.
Georgie Kelly and Stephanie Garreffa were strong performers for the Eagles while Georgia Giofrelle’s long-range shooting was again a feature. Youngster Leisi Kirirua Gill also had some impressive moments.
