Sobkowiak keeps her netball double ton low-key

GOL Gol netball legend Katrina Sobkowiak was happy to keep her milestone game well under the radar.

But 200 games, four premierships, as many league best-and-fairest awards and a Millewa Netball Association life membership under her belt across two decades is worth celebrating.

The Hawks star will reach the double-century when she joins her A Grade teammates on court against Meringur for the final game of the home-and-away season.

“The last couple of years have been a bit slow getting there with injuries and the kids playing footy out at Wentworth as well but it’s nice to finally get there,” she said.

“It’s been amazing to be part of Gol Gol.

“Most of our friendships today have come from our connections at the club and it’s always the people you meet along the way who make it special.

“The body is telling me it’s getting close to time to hang up the boots – retirement isn’t too far away.

“With our kids involved elsewhere our paths might move in a different direction but we’ll always be Gol Gol supporters and always get there if the opportunity presents itself.”

Since joining the club in 2003, Sobkowiak has done it all, including multiple flags and four Dot Wilson trophies for best player in Millewa A Grade.

“The premiership wins are some of the best days of my life, especially when the footy boys have won as well,” she said.

“It was such a great atmosphere.

“In 2010 when we won premierships in every grade, that was an amazing season.”

Gol Gol will prepare for next week’s elimination final clash with Werrimull by taking on Meringur at Alcheringa Oval on Saturday.

Top two sides Nangiloc and Bambill will fight for minor premiership honours at Mildura Senior College ahead of the return fixture in the qualifying final the following week.

Third-placed Werrimull, meanwhile, visit Cardross for the Lions’ final contest of the season.
