Double success for MacU team

MACU Kitchens’ dedication to workplace culture has seen it selected as a finalist at the first Australian Trades Small Business Champion Awards.

Operating in Sunraysia for nearly 20 years, MacU Kitchens has recently been working with Lifestyle Tradie, a trade business education service, to continuously improve its workplace.

Thanks to the work improving culture and ensuring employee and client satisfaction and safety, the business and its owners Justine and Simon McCarthy have been recognised from a pool of thousands of entrants.

“Part of (our work with Lifestyle Tradie) is they suggest that everyone applies for the awards,” Ms McCarthy said.

“We managed to get into the finalists, which is really exciting, and one of our apprentices also got into the finalists as well, so we are pretty happy for him too.”

Ms McCarthy said the couple were really excited for the business, which has a staff of about 15, to still be growing after 20 years.

“It keeps on improving, keeps on growing and changing,” she said.

“We try to be up with it with technology, up with our staff.

“You want a good work environment for staff.”

MacU Kitchens was selected as a finalist in the manufacturing category and are in the running to take a top gong at the gala, held on September 22.

The McCarthys will travel to Sydney for the presentation event with the nominated apprentice, Riley McCarthy, 17.

Awards founder Steve Loe said the trades sector in Australia had never been more important.

“Especially during the last few years, with a challenging economic climate and increasing uncertainty in the building and construction sector,” he said.

“The quantity and quality of entrants in the 2023 Australian Trades Small Business Champion Awards is truly remarkable and so the ultimate selection of this year’s finalists has by no means been an easy feat.”
