Mildura boxers show spark

THREE Mildura boxers have fought at Saturday’s Dwyer’s Boxing Championships in Mount Gambier, coming home with one win and two losses.

Continuing his impressive win streak, Ladd’s Boxing Club’s Hamish Berry duked it out with fellow young Dwyer’s talent Johee Joyce, a boxer who has fought Berry’s stablemate Charlie Cooper three times.

Using his work rate and technical prowess, Berry outboxed his long-reaching opponent and came away with the decision.

The Boxing Cartel’s brothers Rhys and Luke Hutchinson both faced tough nights, being outpointed by more experienced opponents.

In his debut fight, Rhys faced an opponent with three matches under his belt, fighting well and showing heart but losing on the scorecards.

Older brother Luke had a similar experience, taking on dangerous power puncher Luka Uzelac, landing clean punches but not getting the judges’ nod.

The clubs are now gearing up for the next Boxing SA fight held in Adelaide next month before the crescendo of October’s state titles.
