Sunraysia takes out SA country titles

FOOTBALL Federation Sunraysia had multiple division winners at the weekend’s South Australian Junior Soccer Association Country Championships in Broken Hill.

The Sunraysia under 13 and under 14 boys squads both came out winners in their divisions, while under 13 girls, under 16 boys and under 16 girls were all runners-up.

With a lower number of teams in the under 13 division, the Sunraysia 13 boys joined the 14s competition and finished top of their pool to claim the 13s title honours.

The older Sunraysia age group however eliminated the younger squad from the 14s competition in the semi-final 1-0, before going on to defeat Whyalla 2-1 in the final.

Similarly Sunraysia under 15 boys side had to move up to under 16 level and following to wins and two draws, amazingly finished in second place behind Adelaide Hills’ under 15s.

A 3-1 win over Whyalla was their top performance.

Sunraysia finished on top of their pool in the under 13 girls with three wins a massive 18 goals scored, however they went into overtime in their semi-final against Port Lincoln before claiming the 3-2 win.

Unfortunately they lost in the final to Adelaide Hills 2-0.

The under 16 girls sat the top of the table at the end of day one with three wins and a loss, twice winning 9-0 and holding an advantage over Port Lincoln on goal difference.

However the 1-0 for the SA side the next day saw them claim overall honours.

Sunraysia juniors will be in action for S-League grand final day on Sunday at Soccer Park at Aero Ovals.
