TWO Sunraysia teams hit the mark in South Australia, each taking home the top prize in a representative baseball tournament in Glenelg.
The senior and under-17 teams travelled to Glenelg for the South Australian Country Baseball Association (SACBA) carnivals and came away victorious.
Both teams defeated Mount Gambier in the grand finals.
The seniors won 4-0 in their grand final, while the under-17s clean swept their three-game series, taking out their first two (3-1 and 11-5) and winning 10-2 in a casual third game after the result had been decided.
Raiden Wakefield (seniors) and Oliver Hayes (under 17s) were named MVP for the tournament in their respective divisions.
The 21-year-old Wakefield, who played at second base over the three-day event, was honoured to receive the award.
“It means a lot, but the win means more than the MVP for sure,” he said.
“The SACBA tournament is my favourite tournament, it’s relaxed so everybody always comes out and performs.
“Sunraysia have been pretty successful overall, we won last year, so this year was back-to-back for us in the seniors.”
Wakefield, who first represented Sunraysia at the under-12 level, said it was good to see the under-17s come away with the victory.
“Ollie Hayes is a gun, and all of the other younger guys are willing to learn which is good, Sunraysia Baseball is looking strong,” he said.
“We go to this tournament every year, it’s a lot of fun spending four days in Glenelg as a team and playing baseball for three. They have really good facilities there.”
