Top skips’ intriguing duel

By Chris Mitchell

MILDURA will take on ladder leaders Ouyen at Cureton Avenue in the match of the round in division 1 of Bowls Sunraysia Pennant.

The Two Blues have taken all before them this season and sit two games clear of second-placed Irymple.

After a slow start, the Magic have found their mojo, putting together three wins on the trot. They will be looking to take the game right up to the Two Blues.

The competition’s two top skips, Mildura’s Keith Sharman and Ouyen’s Janet Vallance, will be vying to keep their undefeated records intact. Mildura at home are a tough nut to crack and will start slight favourites.

Workers will need to be on the job as they confront a confident Merbein unit after their rampant win over Irymple last weekend.

The promotion of Laurie McLaine and Jack Anderson to skipping roles is paying dividends for the Hawks.

Shawn Fullerton has his quartet up and about and will be keen to keep their run going. Hawks to start favourites and will need to be focused from the get-go.

Coomealla will do battle with Irymple at the Fortress. The Suns will be motivated after dropping their match last week.

The Cannons at home perform strongly and will take the match right up to Irymple. A win for both sides is an imperative. The Suns to shine.

After last week’s round of matches, Nostradamus is a little bewildered attempting to pick the form and make any significant prognostications in division 2.

Irymple host Workers at the Cauldron and have the form to record a win to secure top spot.

Second-placed Nangiloc will host Red Cliffs and after their demolition of reigning premiers Mildura last week will start strong favourites.

Nangiloc sit only one point off top spot and will be pumping to grab the points over the Tigers, who sit comfortably in fourth.

Merbein will welcome Mildura to Kenny Park. The Hawks at home take on a battered Mildura unit who will be looking to regroup after their failure last week. The Magic to collect the points.

Division 3 competition is fierce with only four points separating first and third. Fourth-placed Workers take on Euston at Union GHQ and a win will provide some breathing space.

The match of the round will be between Ouyen and Irymple. The Cannons sit in second spot on equal points with Ouyen and with a shot differential of three. The Two Blues at home to win.

Mildura host top side Underbool. The visitors will start favourites and will be looking to consolidate their position. The Magic have been hot and cold in recent weeks. They will need a fast start if they are to challenge the top side.

Division 4 ladder leaders Wentworth will be without Ivan Behsmann after his Major Mitchell manoeuver last week. They will host second side Coomealla.

A win for the Steamers will have them two games clear of the field. At home, Steamers to win.

Irymple at home to the Euston Bandits will be looking to consolidate third spot. The Bandits have been gunning quietly in recent weeks but it’s hard to go past the home side.

Red Cliffs host Mildura for bragging rights. The winner will jump a game clear of the bottom side with the loser looking to regroup and refocus on the second half of the season.
