ROUND six action in the Sunraysia Cricket Association saw some huge performances across multiple games.
After falling to 4/14, Mildura East looked to be in trouble against Mildura West, but a game saving 151 run partnership between captain Bradley Thomas and Thomas Vadlja saved the day as they easily eclipsed their target of 168, finishing the day all out for 266.
Thomas finished his day unbeaten on 123 runs off 232 balls, while Vadlja, who played more aggressively was bowled out for 87.
West bowler Locke Thornton claimed 5/64 on the day, and although he claimed the wicket of Vadlja, the damage had already been done.
At the midway point of the season, it was an important victory for East who have moved up to third on the ladder with a record of 4-2.
Over at Mildura Senior College, Irymple’s Billy Phelan tore through Mildura Settlers top order on path to figures of 6/35 including ten maidens.
At one stage, Settlers were 6/5, but fortunately they avoided further embarrassment as their lower order managed to stick around to give them an eventual total of 127.
Richard Wyld scored 62 runs in his team’s losing effort.
The follow on was enforced by Irymple who had 30 overs to bowl Settlers out in their second innings.
Settlers managed to face out the day, ending week two on 5/56.
Irymple moved up to fourth in the standing, while Settlers remain winless for the season.
In the match-up between Gol Gol and Merbein, 80 runs from opener Tony Trinick wasn’t enough to propel his team to a win.
The monster score of 302 set by Gol Gol was always going to be a tough task and once Trinick was run by Wade Hancock it became unattainable.
Callen Hickey had an economical day with the ball, claiming figures of 4/18 off 18 overs.
Gol Gol remain second in the standings with only only one loss, while Merbein sit at seventh having won just a single game.
At McLeod Oval, ladder leaders Nichols Point had yet another well-round performance that knocked off Coomealla Wentworth.
Chasing 269, Coomealla Wentworth ended their day at 9/177, led by captain Luke Cullinan who was unbeaten on 71.
Five players took wickets for Nichols Point who remain undefeated for the season.
