Ultimate away team takes home exhibition honours

THE World XI has made it two wins from two games against the Sunraysia Cricket Association President’s XI at the second annual end-of-year exhibition Twenty20 game.

Mildura West batters Kian Burns and Greg Lewis and Merbein bowler Ben Green played starring roles as the combination of imports and expats took the victory by 13 runs at Mildura Sporting Precinct on Friday night.

Burns (48 from 42) and Lewis (40 not out from 21) led the World XI to 8/137 from its 20 overs, Nichols Point coach Luke Coates (3/16) and Merbein youngster Dillon Furze (2/24) the leading wicket takers for the President’s XI.

In response, the President’s XI was all out for 124 after 18 overs with Mark Thomson (27 from 22) and Wade Hancock (20 from 21) top scoring.

Green finished with 3/28, while Gol Gol duo Shac Thomas and Than Rajapakse grabbed two each.

The end of year game doubles as a fundraiser to help support travel for SCA junior representative sides, and junior squads were presented with their playing shirts before the game.
