Cricket tournament updates

GOL Gol star Wade Hancock and his Victorian side made the perfect start to the Australian Country Cricket Championships, winning their first three matches.

Batting at No.8 in game 1, Hancock scored just three as the Vics secured a 92-run win over Western Australia, however he also effected a run out of WA opener Bevan Bennall.

The SCA leading run scorer made 20 from 37 deliveries batting in the same position in game 2, helping his side defeat Queensland via the Duckworth Lewis System.

Hancock finished unbeaten on 20 in Friday’s first Twenty20 match, helping guide Victoria to a two-wicket victory over ACT by the second-last ball of the game.

Friday’s second T20 match against NSW began after print deadlines.

The competition continues on Sunday as Victoria face South Australia.NORTHERN RIVERS COUNTRY WEEK

RAIN wreaked havoc for Sunraysia during the Northern Rivers Country Week.

After a Monday bye, the under 17 boys lost to Shepparton on Tuesday via the Duckworth Lewis System, before Wednesday’s games against Murray Valley and Gouburn Murray were washed out.

Thursday’s Twenty20 games resulted in a four-run loss to Murray Valley, Lewis Dichiera top-scoring with 27, and a 10-run loss to Goulburn Murray, Angus Smith starring with 4/5.

Taj Hill with 25 runs was Sunraysia’s top performer in their final contest, a seven-wicket loss to Bendigo.

The under 15 side’s opener on Tuesday was abandoned due to the weather, Colby Marr taking 3/27 as Bendigo finished at 9/146.

Sunraysia reached 1/24 before rain came in, while the weather also forced their second game against Goulburn Murray to be washed out.

In their only completed game, Sunraysia went down by 27 runs to Shepparton, with Josh Driscoll (3/10), Harvy Vandenberg (3/19) and Max Morgan (31) all performing well.

UNDER 18 GIRLS PREMIER CRICKET

IT’S been mixed fortunes for Sunraysia representatives in the opening two rounds of the Victorian Premier Cricket under 18 girls tournament.

Demi Zanoni’s Melbourne side secured wins over Prahran and Ringwood on Thursday to start their campaign in style.

The Mildura West star is yet to bowl and has only played a minor role with the bat so far.

Meanwhile, Mildura East’s Taya Higgins and Gol Gol’s Abby Collihole are playing for Essendon-Maribyrnong Park.

The Bombers went down to Box Hill and Prahran on Thursday, Higgins making 10 not out and Collihole taking a wicket in the latter contest.

The series continues on Sunday when Melbourne face Carlton and Essendon-Maribyrnong Park collide with Ringwood.
