Zanoni helps Melbourne to runner-up finish

MILDURA West emerging talent Demi Zanoni has finished second with her Melbourne side in the Victorian Premier Cricket Under 18 girls tournament.

Melbourne finished with three wins and a loss from the the five-game tournament, with one other game eventuating in a no-result due to rain.

The Mildura West dynamo played her role when required as they recorded wins over Prahran, Ringwood and Dandenong, alongside a loss to Box Hill and an abandoned game against eventual table toppers Carlton.

In two hits Zanoni scored 20 runs from 25 deliveries, while also grabbing wickets against Box Hill and Dandenong.

Meanwhile, fellow local players Abby Collihole and Taya Higgins represented Essendon Maribyrnong Park, which finished ninth without a win.

The young guns from Gol Gol and Mildura East respectively played solid roles for the Bombers.

After a slower start with the bat Collihole finished with knocks of 26 and 29 against Carlton and Geelong, while Higgins bowled well without wickets until the final game when she took 2/19 against the Cats.

Meanwhile in the South Australian Premier Cricket Youth Premier League, Sunraysia trio Ruby Woollard, Makenzie Holy and Addison Bell finished fourth with West Torrens.

The Eagles recorded two wins from five games as Sturt went on to defeat Glenelg in the final.

Holy was the only one of the trio to see game time, the young spinner taking an impressive 4/23 in West Torrens’ win over Adelaide and 1/9 in their 32-run win over Northern Districts.
