A slice of heaven on world pizza day

IS there a better way to celebrate World Pizza Day than by sitting down to an award-winning traditional pizza?

Mildura restaurant 400 Gradi boasts the accolade of producing the world’s best margherita pizza, and to mark World Pizza Day on Friday, it was selling them for half price.

The name 400 Gradi translates to 400 degrees, which is the temperature the pizzas are cooked at in their woodfire ovens.

Mildura manager Louis Sarrou said 400 Gradi owner Johnny Di Franceso, who started the brand in Melbourne, was one of the first people to bring neopolitan pizza to Australia.

“It’s not your typical takeaway kind of pizza,” Mr Sarrou said.

“It’s pretty simple, with flavours and ingredients sourced internationally, like from Italy – you can really taste the quality in the pizzas, which makes it unique.”

Mr Sarrou said the margherita is among their most popular pizzas.

“It is probably the simplicity of it, but at the same time, there are so many flavours in the pizza itself,” Mr Sarrou said.

“It is a complex pizza to perfect, but it is also simple.”
