Wyld’s side in World semis

RICHIE Wyld’s Australian side are into the semi-final of the International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup in South Africa.

The 10-time Mildura Settlers premiership player and three-time Innes Medal winner has been a constant presence in the Aussie side across their five pool games ahead of their semi-final match-up with New Zealand.

Australia finished second behind Wyld’s native England in Pool A with four wins and a loss from their five contests in Cape Town.

Wyld has mostly batted down the order for the Aussies, his biggest contribution being a solid 23 in their final pool match victory over Zimbabwe on Sunday.

His best bowling figures are 3/33, coming in their seven-wicket victory over Canada.

Australia will be at pains to stop Kiwi Hardeep Singh, the competition’s leading run-scorer with 396, scoring two centuries and two half centuries from his five matches.

England will face hosts South Africa in the other semi-final.
