Crunch time in Sunraysia women’s cricket

MILDURA Settlers, Merbein and Mildura East all have plenty to play for in the final round of the Sunraysia Cricket Association Premier Women’s cricket on Friday.

Top side Mildura West and second-placed combined outfit Coomealla Point have both secured home finals, but the aforementioned trio are battling it out for the remaining two top four spots.

Settlers and Merbein currently occupy third and fourth, but reigning premiers East are just one win behind.

On the basis of quotient points Setts appear safe to stay in the top four, no matter the result of their contest against Gol Gol, however it’s much tighter between last season’s grand finalists.

The Magpies, on paper, have the tougher task of facing ladder leaders West at John Hall Oval, but an underdog victory would secure a finals berth.

Settlers will be favourites against Gol Gol at Alcheringa Oval, as will East when they face Nichols Point at Mildura Sporting Precinct.

The other final round game sees Coomealla Point at home to Irymple at George Gordon Oval.

Coomealla Point skipper Katelin Kemp has been outstanding, scoring 251 runs at an average of 125.5, to top the run scoring charts, which includes five times retired not out at 30.

She also has 12 wickets for good measure.

Shania McKinnon has been brilliant for Setts retiring not out at 30 in all bar one of her eight innings, her avreage of 210 matching her runs tally.

Merbein’s Natialie Thomas has also been a measure of consistency across the campaign for 209 runs.

West duo Demi Zanoni and Tara Martin lead all comers with the ball taking 16 wickets each, with Setts’ Adrienne Fielding (15) and Coomella Point duo Tauta Rangiuira (14) and Tatiana Kirirua-Gill (13) rounding out the top five wicket takers.

The SCA Premier Women’s grand final will take place on Friday, March 15.
