$5k grant for Ouyen Rams

AS the first-placed Ouyen Rams seek a Red Cliffs Cricket Association premierships, the club is set to receive a significant boost off the field.

From a total of 100-plus submissions, the Rams were among 17 successful applicants to gain funding towards upgrading their canteen.

The $5000 grant was provided by CitiPower, which since 2018 has provided $360,000 to more than 80 local cricket clubs.

CitiPower general manager Scott Russell said there was a key reason why canteens were an area of focus.

“We all know how essential canteens are to local clubs, but it’s also the one place where electrical safety risks are most likely to be found,” he said.

“So far, we’ve awarded grants to 86 local cricket clubs, clubs who have now directly benefited from the program to improve their electrical infrastructure.”

Rams secretary Nic Vine believed the grant would go a long way.

“From the club perspective, it helps a lot … it’ll contribute to a new switchboard, cabinets, cupboards, table tops and more,” Vine said.

“It probably hasn’t been updated since the ’70s or ’80s, so hopefully we can have it all good to go for next season.”
