Toutai a class above in SA event

PROMISING boxer Gab Toutai “absolutely dominated” at a recent BSA Tournament held in Adelaide, according to Iron Fist coach Nigel McWilliams.

“We’ve been working on some things with Gab and on Saturday night he really took that to the ring,” McWilliams said.

“In the three rounds of boxing, he was levels above his opponent and after the fight even Callum Peters, who’s an Olympian, came up to us and was just blown away by how much Gab has improved.

“A really good victory and certainly much more to come.”

Close to six weeks since moving over to Iron Fist, Toutai now has a record of 1-1.

McWilliams said the 20-year-old had shown great improvement since his first fight at the club, which was just four weeks earlier.

“In that first fight, he’d only been at the club for two weeks and fought an unbeaten fighter,” he said.

“Those few weeks in between have really made a difference and we feel like we’re building an identity for him as a fighter.

“There’s been lots of sparring and work behind the scenes … giving him the chance to figure out who he wants to be in the ring.

“I’m really proud of Gab’s work, his output, ability to listen and take on what I’ve taught him and also just his ability to produce what he wanted.”

The next outing for Toutai will be at the Renmark Boxing Tournament, which will take place at the Renmark Greek Hall on April 6.
