IMPROVING the culture at Cardross will go a long way in 2024 after a disappointing result last season, according to first-year coach Melissa Kennedy.
“We’ve had really good numbers throughout preseason and some good new recruits,” Kennedy said.
“Last year we didn’t finish up where we wanted to so we had a really good look at what our values were and how we should attack the next season and I think that’s really showing through the playing group.”
Kennedy said simply having more players at the club would contribute immensely.
“We were relatively short on players last season so we often had players playing up to fill gaps and that made things pretty difficult,” Kennedy said.
“We’ve got some youth, some of which are returning players and also Tam Hammond, who will bring experience – she’s been a really good shooter for a long time.
“She’s come back from having a baby, so really excited to have her back.
“She’ll really strengthen our side.”
The Lions managed just one win in 2023 but weren’t far off the mark, losing many of their games by a small margin.
“If you have a look at some of our games last year, we lost maybe five games by three goals or less,” Kennedy said.
“That shows that we had the talent and skill but we weren’t quite getting over the line.
“That comes down to mentality, so I think we have to strengthen our attitude towards the game and that should help us get over the line more.”
