THE Hawks made finals last despite only five wins, but their campaign was ended by a tough one-goal semi-final loss to eventual premiers Werrimull.

First-year-coach Meg Hammond hoped this would provide motivation for her team.

“This season I’d like to bring a competitive side the court each week, the girls fell just short last season so I’d expect some fire in the bellies to try and take to one step further this year,” she said.

“We’ve seen big numbers throughout pre-season which has made senior selections really difficult.

“But, we recently finished our selections and are looking forward to our final training before round 1.”

Hammond is one of a few additions to the netball program, having previously spent most of her time at Irymple.

“Since returning to the sport after an ACL injury, I have been eager to gain my love for netball again,” she said.

“Coaching will give me the opportunity to find my passion for the sport that was once a big part of my life.”

When asked about leadership across all grades, Hammond said everyone would play their part.

“Being the top grade each individual will be a leader and role model in their own way,” Hammond said.

“With new faces to the A Grade side, I would like to see last year’s A Grade players lead and guide our new players for the season ahead.”

Hammond commended the culture of the club.

“It has been lovely so far, forming new relationships and friendships with club members, which I am eager to continue to build,” she said.

Gol Gol will match up against Cardross at Alcheringa Oval in a round 1 night fixture.
