Pies, Saints hold firm

WERRIMULL and Bambill remain deadlocked on top of the MFNL A Grade netball ladder as the halfway mark of the home-and-away season approaches.

The tight top four on the table remained after the weekend’s results, with Nangiloc just two points behind after leapfrogging Cardross into third place.

In a low-scoring affair Bambill had to fend off a hard-working Meringur outfit to claim a 12-goal victory at Mildura Senior College, winning 43-31.

Maddy Tormey led the way for the Saints, well supported by Samantha Garraway, who has regularly featured in the best players this season, and Elisha De Amicis.

The Roos, who made life hard for the home side, listed Teagan Pettigrew, Bella Connell and Lauren McFarlane as their best performers.

Reigning premiers Werrimull grabbed an important win over Cardross at Lake Cullulleraine, earning the four points with a 62-39 scoreline.

Erin Sell led the charge for Magpies with a best-on-court performance, while Rachel Thomas and Tara Martin also played strong roles in the black and white.

After winning their first three games of the season, the Lions have managed just one win in their past four matches and will look to rectify that run after the King’s Birthday weekend bye.

Tiffany Douglas, Montanna Ezzey and Jessica Pratt were named Cardross’s best players.

Nangiloc have won three of their past four games to move into third place, the latest result a 60-42 win over Gol Gol at Alcheringa Oval.

Maddy Price led the way for the Demons as reigning Dot Wilson Trophy winner Tamara Loveridge and Ashlee Loveridge also fired for the visitors.

Coach Meg Newey, Sophie Lanyon and Jessemy Thornton were the best performed for the brown and gold, who are still chasing their first win of the campaign.
