Leng moves with purpose

AS Mildura A Grade’s captain and centre, Ally Leng puts a lot of effort into her roles on and off the court.

This was evidenced by her standout performance in the Demons’ 32-goal win over Red Cliffs at the weekend.

But filling those roles to the best of her ability was something Lang tried to ensure week in, week out.

“As a captain, I want to make sure that I bring a good energy on the court and have a purposeful presence on the court,” she said.

“Also being a centre, I want to make sure that my passing is as accurate as it can be, especially putting it into the space for the shooters to grab and shoot, and making sure the flow of the court and that there is connections, ensuring our drives are hard and sharp, and that every movement has a purpose.”

Leng said for her and her teammates, enjoying the game was just an important as getting points on the scoreboard, and those strong friendships only help their on-court performances.

“We have such a versatile group, the group dynamic is fantastic on and off the court, and we have a really good connection,” she said.

“Bringing that on to the court on the weekend (against Red Cliffs) is sort of what we aimed for.”

Leng has also taken on a junior coaching role this season, taking charge of the 11 & Unders.

“Honestly, it was a great opportunity when I did get asked, being such a club person I was quite excited,” she said.

“My main goal for them was to just get fundamentals down, to educate them and make sure that they are having a great time.”

Leng was looking forward to the rest of the season as Mildura sit second on the ladder at the halfway mark.

“I am just excited to see how we can progress as a team,” she said.

“Looking into finals, we do want to make sure that we can keep developing, but also I guess sharpening up skills and making sure we can be as physical and accurate and skilful as we can be.”

As the round 9 Netballer of the Round, Leng receives $150 from Mildura Golf Resort
