ACTIVITY might have slowed due to rain on Friday, however, Mildura’s centre plantation redevelopment remains on track to be complete by the end of the year.
Most of what is to replaced has been removed, including a decommissioned public toilet block, while the site has largely been scraped level and work is now under way on trenching for electrical conduits for lighting and plumbing.
Once the underground works are complete, an effort to beautify the northern gateway to Mildura’s main thoroughfare can then begin.
The key entry to the city will follow a similar theme to completed Deakin Avenue stages between Eighth and Tenth streets including a new central footpath, feature lighting, more than 1600 new plants, grassed areas, updated street furniture, renovation of the existing historic limestone structure and refurbishment of the water fountain.
Mildura councillors recently agreed to a revised design of the development, in part, due to “cost limitations”.
The new design included removing car parking and shifting the public toilet facility.
The more than $1.987 million project includes almost $1.22 million Federal Government grant contribution and $767,000 from council.
