Biblical battle looms for Saints and Demons

STICKING to their own structures will be a key focus for both Bambill and Nangiloc as the two go head-to-head in the Millewa A Grade netball this Saturday.

While the Demons started their season off with a three-goal win over Bambill in round 1, by the time they met them again in round 5, they went down to the Saints by 20 goals.

“I don’t want to say ‘confident’ but we are feeling pretty good,” Bambill A Grade coach Lateesha Hester said.

“Coming back to win in the second game has given us a little bit of confidence, but you can’t be too cocky.”

There will be a lot of attention on the match-up between Saints shooter Ebony Roberts and Demons defender Ginine Sluiter, as the Saints look to prioritise their shooting accuracy and capitalising off defensive gains.

Hester said she believed her defensive duo in Samantha Garraway and Mikayla Mole would also be ones to watch as they went up against Demons shooters Maddy Price and Gabby Gardner.

“We all work really well as a team. Everyone has their role to play, and I think everyone knows what their role is and what their strengths are,” Hester said.

Demons coach Annette Emonson, who is still sidelined with an injury, said her side would be trying to focus on putting into practice the systems they had been working on all year.

“I think it’s the same any week we come up against any of the top four teams: you’ve just got to be confident with what you’ve got and the systems you’ve got, and respect your opposition,” she said.

“We’re a different team to last year so we’re just trying to get everyone really working as a team.

“We have some people who are new to the club as well, and we are just getting everyone together and working as a team and knowing what their role is.”

While the scoreboard hasn’t gone in the Demons’ favour as much as they would have liked, Emonson said she felt like the team was really beginning to click.

“I can see what we are trying to achieve is really starting to happen,” she said.

“For me it was always going to be about putting it all together and coming together at the right time of the year.”

In other games Gol Gol will host Cardross at Gol Gol Football Oval while Meringur will travel to Lake Cullulleraine to take on Werrimull.
