Knight nails six of the best

IRYMPLE Knights striker Jordan Cox buried six goals in a single game as the ladder leaders put Three Colours to the sword in round 7 of S-League action.

Under the Friday night lights, the off-season recruit shone brightest as he hit hat-tricks in each half to help the green machine to a 12-0 victory.

It followed two goals to Cox in the previous week’s 10-0 win over Nichols Point to establish a strong run of form.

Knights coach Phil Karallis said with close to their first choice side available, his troops were hitting their straps.

“The boys are starting to find their feet,” he said.

“We’ve been playing all season without a full team but now we’re almost complete.

“The boys are building the chemistry and playing great soccer, as the last two games have shown.”

Joseph Davies opened the scoring 10 minutes in before Donald Jerry doubled up at the 20-minute mark.

Cox then scored his first three goals within a seven-minute blitz before defender Nathan Monteleone found the back of the net for a 6-0 half-time lead.

Kieran Burrows, Nakatani Shunsuke and Alexi Karallis all scored second-half goals alongside Cox’s next three goals to complete the massive victory.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Mildura City came back from their bye with a vengeance, defeating Nichols Point 5-1.

Forward Brandon Pollifrone scored a hat-trick on the road to victory, opening the account six minutes in before finishing on the brink of half-time and full-time respectively.

Pointers youngster Brooklyn Hudak brought the scores level at the 15-minute mark, however, the joy was short-lived as Meric Kiran struck just a minute later.

Youngster Campbell Brown also scored in the second half to complete the result.

In Senior Women’s action, Irymple Knights secured their first win of the season with a 3-1 result over Nichols Point.

Merrinda Hill opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Jasmine Belchin added another three minutes later.

Christine Cottrell got one back for the Points right on the break to trail 2-1, but Belchin completed her brace in the 75th minute to earn the points.

S-League continues this weekend before a competition-wide bye for school holidays on July 7.
