Bulldogs grow bonds

FOSTERING an inclusive culture within her team is what Tayla Sellens believes is leading her and South Mildura’s A Grade towards victory this season.

The midcourter said what she liked the most about the game this year was the dynamic between her teammates.

“I definitely think it helps having that bond both on and off the court, that is probably what I have enjoyed the most – and the winning obviously helps,” she said.

The Bulldogs are now on a six-game winning streak, making a big statement to start the second half of the season by rectifying their initial losses to Merbein and Ouyen United.

With Sellens and newly appointed coach Tara Bate the only two A Grade players to return to the side from last year, it took the Bulldogs a couple extra weeks into the season to find their groove.

“Trying to find that gel on the court and trying to find what works best for us is a big thing,” Sellens said.

“Obviously we struggled with that in the first couple of weeks, but I think we have really started to find what works well for us and I think we are really gelling well on the court as a team.”

On a personal level, Sellens said she had been focusing improving her own game by listening to the advice from Bate.

“Playing with her last year, I grew a huge amount of respect for her as a player,” Sellens said.

“She has so much knowledge and she definitely shows it in the way that she coaches and the way that she approaches her training.

“She has been an absolute blessing to our team this year.”

As the round 11 Netballer of the Round, Sellens receives $150 from Mildura Golf Resort.
