A belated hello, oh and we have to put the price up

By Alistair Finlay
Editor, Sunraysia Daily

FIRST off, a big and albeit belated “hey there!” and “how’s it going?”

My name is Alistair Finlay and I’m the new-ish editor of the Sunraysia Daily.

I’ve been in the big chair here, at the river end of Deakin Avenue, for about two months now and I’ve loved every minute of it.

This community, our community, has been so welcoming and warm – both literally and figuratively.

It feels like I’ve been here 30 seconds and 30 years all at once in every positive way.

It’s a privilege and honour to serve this community and be part of the stewardship of the Sunraysia Daily.

Long before I existed and long after I turn to dust, Sunraysia Daily will endure, my only goal is to help make it as good as it can be while I’m here.

Now for some bad news …

We gotta to put the cover price up.

As of this Monday, July 1, the cost of Sunraysia Daily‘s weekday edition will increase by 30 cents to $2.50, while a Saturday edition will go up 20 cents to $3.

I’m not going to give you lines about the increased costs of doing business, or challenges of the industry – those things are well known.

You, we, are all living in a time of high inflation, increasing interest rates, cost-of-living blowouts, and technological convergence and disruption.

But I will say that I personally value your willingness to spend your hard earned money on a copy of this paper.

If you buy every edition of the Sunraysia Daily each week, the price rise is going to be an extra $1.10 you’ll be paying.

I respect that’s not nothing. It’s a better loaf a bread, a nicer cut of meat, a higher quality cup of coffee.

Those are not small things. Those are important things and important decisions you need to make.

However, I can assure you that your decision to buy the Sunraysia Daily supports jobs for local people, who produce local news, for our local communities and spend here money here.

And, I can assure you that your money will be put to good use to continue doing those things.

Thank you, personally and sincerely, for your ongoing readership and support of the Sunraysia Daily.

If needs be my contact information is on the bottom left-hand side of Page 2, so please reach out.
