Dreamtime to bring out the best of the best

THE best of Millewa’s netballers will take to the court tonight for the Dreamtime at the P showcase.

Millewa Football Netball League will combine with the Mallee Tigers Football Netball Club and Broken Hill Football League for an evening of representative football and netball contests at Mildura Sporting Precinct.

The MFNL will feature four netball teams in the interleague contest, including two senior teams, a 15 and Under team and an 18 and Under exhibition match.

MFNL chair and senior coach Emily Harlock-Knights said she was “fairly excited” to see all the teams run out this evening.

“To have the two senior teams, a junior and our exhibition match just goes to show the hard work that Brooke (Watson) and the likes have put into creating an exciting event and community atmosphere,” she said.

Players from across the six MFNL teams were given the option to self-nominate if they were interested in trialling for the interleague teams, with the strongest players and best combinations selected to represent the league.

“I think the teams are a great representation of what the league has to offer,” Harlock-Knights said.

“I think it is a really good show of sportsmanship as well – we’ve got not only strong players, but quite fair and distinguished players from the league that have put their hands up.

“I am really proud of all the girls that have made the teams and everything that they have put in to get to where they are.”

Harlock-Knights said she believed the competition was a great opportunity for the players to take their netball “to the next step”.

“Every girl that plays netball loves netball for one reason or another, so having the opportunity to go up against other people and showcase what they have, I think that is really exciting, especially for our juniors that in the past haven’t had these opportunities,” Harlock-Knights said.

“It is just the start to what I hope is a big, strong future for our junior girls.”
