Hat-trick of state selections

FORMER Mildura resident Makenzie Holy is making her mark on the South Australian sports scene, having recently achieved selection for three state cricket teams.

After moving to Adelaide in 2023 to pursue her passion for both soccer and cricket, Makenzie rapidly excelled in her sporting endeavours.

In her first year in Adelaide, she was selected for the South Australian Under-16 cricket team.

She represented the state at the nationals in Tasmania in January 2024, where she distinguished herself as the lead wicket-taker for South Australia and the fourth highest wicket-taker in the comp.

Makenzie’s performance led to her selection for the Cricket Australia team, where she received her baggy green cap.

At just 15 years old, Makenzie’s achievements continue in 2024.

She recently made her debut in the Football South Australia State League senior women’s soccer with Fulham United Football Club and has since run on for four appearances at the state league level.

Makenzie’s focus and talent have also earned her selection in three state teams.

She was chosen for the South Australian Cricket Association Under-16 Squad for the second consecutive year, training at the Adelaide Oval with the state’s top under-16 cricketers.

Additionally, she was selected for the School Sport South Australian Under-15 Girls Cricket Team, which will compete in the School Sport Australia National Championships in Mackay, Queensland, in early September.

Her third selection is for the South Australian Indoor Cricket Team, which will participate in the National Indoor Cricket Championships in Melbourne next week.

Makenzie began her cricket journey with Sunraysia’s Nichols Point Cricket Club and now plays for West Torrens District Cricket Club in the SACA Premier Cricket competition.
