Calling all fashion starters

THE 100-year running of the bet365 Mildura Cup is set to be celebrated in style and the Fashions on the Field will bring extra glamour trackside.

There’s more than $4000 in prizes will be won across the Fashions on the Field cup-day categories.

But event coordinator Maria Robinson said the best thing fashion fanatics could wear was their smile.

“It’s important to complete your package: the hat, the outfit, the shoes,” she said.

“But the most important thing when standing on the stage is to smile and have fun.”

The four categories include Lady of the Day featuring traditional racewear fashion, Most Fashionable Lady of the Day for more current racewear fashion trends, the Millinery Award for best headwear, and Most Fashionable Man.

All of the categories are for people 18 years or older.

Every entrant in any of the categories will receive a $10 voucher from each of Magnolia Beauty Bar and Stephano’s Cafe.

“When I was asked to organise the fashions and the prizes, I really wanted to make it fantastic and for everyone involved to have fun,” Mrs Robinson said.

“People put a lot of effort into getting dressed up, and to acknowledge their effort in getting dressed, that is the aim of fashions on the field.”

Mrs Robinson said she expected to see a lot of block colours among the fashion this year, including burgundy, soft blues and yellows, as well as cream.

But Mrs Robinson stressed the need for racegoers to dress in accordance with the weather, which is set to be cloudy and windy.

“Because it is winter, the most important thing people need to remember is dress for the day and appropriate for the weather,” she said.

Mrs Robinson also encouraged those interested in entering Fashions on the Field to get there nice and early to ensure they didn’t miss it, with all sign-ups to be done before race two in readiness for the judging after race three.

Registrations will be taken on the day at the race day office.
