Stakes high in rematch

A MASSIVE game looms for Irymple Knights on their home turf at Henshilwood Park this weekend.

The basin will host what could be a worthy S-League title-defining contest in senior men’s action with Mildura fronting up in a top-two clash.

After City hosted Irymple at their Kenny Park home this year, it’s now Knights turn for a big community day at their traditional home turf, with all grades in action.

Irymple president Sam Primarano said it was a great day for the club to be on their home turf.

“We played Mildura City out at Kenny Park earlier this year, now we get the chance to do so at Henshilwood,” he said.

“It’s a good place to play providing the weather holds off, we usually try to make a big day out of it and get as many supporters down to watch as possible.

“We try to have all grades playing, plus the Mini Roos as well.”

City and Knights remain the clear top two in senior men’s and with the former defeating the latter in their first meeting this year, Sunday’s match-up could be vital in the title race.

A win for City would make it hard for anyone to stop them from claiming a fourth consecutive title, however a Knights victory would likely see the title race go all the way to the final day of the season.

“It’s always a good contest between the top two sides and hopefully we can give them a run for their money,” Primarano said.

“Obviously there’s still a few games to play after this, but it will be a pretty important match, if they win they’re obviously in pole position to to win the title but if we can we give ourselves every chance.”

The Knights president said despite their winless season, the club was happy with the progress shown by the senior women’s outfit.

“There’s been a lot of new player come in a lot of juniors who have played under-16s and seniors on the same day, so it’s been a great effort from them,” he said.

All other scheduled matches will take place at Soccer Park, including the men’s clash between Mildura United and Nichols Point.
