Second chance beckons for Werrimull

LADDER leaders Werrimull have just about locked in a qualifying final berth after a solid win against Cardross in round 12 of Millewa A Grade netball.

The Magpies, missing three of their first-choice players, were able to hold the Lions at bay to secure a 49-42 victory away from home.

The defending premiers are 10 points clear of third-placed Nangiloc, who they face this week, ahead of their final three games of the home-and-away season.

Shooter Aislinn Campbell put in a best-on-court performance for the victors, while Tara Martin and Erin Sell were important contributors.

Cardross goalie Tamara Hamence was named in her side’s best, alongside the consistent Montana Ezzey and Christina Villiva.

Second-placed Bambill remain just a win in arrears of the Magpies following a big win over Meringur at Lake Cullulleraine.

The Saints accumulated the highest score of the round across A Grade in both leagues, sinking 65 goals to the Roos’ 34.

Maddy Tormey, Luandi Fourie and Mikayla Mole were all important players in red, white and black, while Teagan Pettigrew, Emily Gleeson, Jordan Kerr were best for Meringur, who still harbour hopes of qualifying for finals.

Third-placed Nangiloc made it three wins on the bounce by defeating Gol Gol at home.

The Demons appear to be hitting their straps at the right time of the season and can’t be discounted from making a push for the top two following their 55-30 victory.

Maddy Price, reigning Dot Wilson Trophy winner Tamara Loveridge and Ginine Sluiter played well for Nangiloc, as did Suzi Nitschke, Abbey Curran and Megan Newey for the Hawks.
