Goal fest in senior soccer

BIG wins were all the rage in round 12 of the Football Federation Sunraysia S-League as the back of the net rattled among all senior matches.

Mildura City’s quest for a fourth straight title appears on track, remaining undefeated at the top of the table following their 9-0 demolition of Nichols Point.

A hat-trick for attacker Brandon Pollifrone headlined the result as he struck twice in the first half before completing his fill in the second half.

Emerging youngster Campbell Brown opening the scoring for City in the 19th minute, before Pollifrone, Nicolas Woods and Joseph Muscatello all added goals within the following 11 minutes.

Pollifrone scored right before halftime to give City the 5-0 advantage at the break and the young Pointers squad plenty to think about.

Alongside Pollifrone’s hat-trick, Woods and Brown completed braces and Dominic Ghidinelli added another to complete the result.

Irymple Knights are keeping pace with the the title favourites, their 6-0 win over Three Colours ensuring they stay within reach of City, albeit with one less game in hand.

After a six-goal haul earlier this year, Knights striker Jordan Cox added another hat-trick on Sunday, taking his season tally to 12.

The Broken Hill product struck twice in the opening half, including from the penalty spot, to give Irymple the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Young gun Keiran Burrows scored twice in the space of three minutes early in the second half to put the result beyond doubt before fellow teenager Alexi Karallis also added to the score sheet.

Cox rounded out the hat-trick in the 67th minute.

In senior women’s, champions in waiting Mildura City had a massive second half to defeat Irymple Knights 6-0 and maintain their aim of an invincible season.

Neither side could open their account in the first half, but the final 20 minutes was where City did most of the damage.

Ava Gemits scored the first goal after 57 minutes before Isabella Palamara doubled the advantage 13 minutes later.

Lillee Driscoll scored two in the final 15 minutes, with Stella Brown and Chelsea Pollifrone also striking before game’s end.
