City tsunami secures fourth straight title

MILDURA City’s fourth consecutive S-League senior men’s title has been secured following a dominant victory over Three Colours on Sunday.

The undefeated ladder leaders put an incredible 19 goals into the back of the net without conceding any to give themselves an unassailable lead with two rounds of the season remaining.

Nicolas Woods scored five goals and fellow attackers Brandon Pollifrone and Dominic Ghidinelli grabbed four each on the way to the monster result.

Campbell Brown and Taylan Karakurt each scored a brace, and Meric Kiran and Joseph Muscatello added another to complete the result.

It has been a dominant run for City in recent years.

Closest challenger Irymple Knights ensured a 1-0 result over third-placed Mildura United when Joseph Davies scored late in the second half.

Meanwhile, Daisy Sheehan scored a hat-trick for Knights as they won their senior women’s clash over Nichols Point 3-2.

Sheehan struck just before halftime to give Knights the lead at the break and twice in the second half to secure the result.

Heidi Gibson’s 74th minute strike gave the Pointers some hope, as did Eva Rich’s late goal during injury time, but Knights were able to hold on.
