Magpies back to grand final

WERRIMULL now have a chance at a back-to-back Millewa A Grade netball premierships after a convincing 15-goal win over Bambill on Saturday.

The semi-final match had it all in terms of weather conditions, including rain, wind and sunshine but the defending champions secured a 49-34 result.

Magpies coach Anna Thomson believes their ability to adjust to the unfavourable conditions gave them the advantage over the Saints.

“We’ve had lots of rainy games this year, and it really made sure that we steadied ourselves, slowed down and were really definite about our passing and our decision making on the court,” she said.

“We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes, and each of the girls had their own little goal and target they had to be working on, and to see the girls achieve that today was really nice.”

The reigning premiers will now have a week off before they meet the winner of next week’s match between Bambill and Nangiloc in the grand final.

“It’s such an amazing feeling to be heading into another grand final with this team – I couldn’t be prouder of the girls and what they achieved,” Thompson said.

“We’ll soak it up for a couple of days, but we’ll hit the track again on Tuesday.”

On Sunday, Nangiloc ensured they are a chance to return to the big dance with a big win over Cardross 56-33.

The Lions won four of their first games for the season but had only secured two wins since then, while the Demons have won six of their last seven games to hit finals in top form.

Nangiloc will face Bambill at Alcheringa Oval this week.
